Abstract

Suggestibility, defined as the tendency to accept information uncritically, has been linked to susceptibility to hypnosis and authoritarian attitudes. While further research is needed, the potential use of hypnotic suggestion to manipulate beliefs and behavior raises ethical concerns about the use of hypnosis in coercive contexts. Recommendations are provided for mitigating risks associated with hypnotic suggestion.
